Detailed Description

This is a different routing to that of our Bush Willow Tour but still represents excellent value for money.

The vast areas of the Makgadikgadi are visited first through Leroo La Tau, which sits right on the banks of the flowing Boteti River overlooking the National Park opposite. The camp gives you the benefit of this unique area with its specialist ecosystem.

You then concentrate on the Moremi Game Reserve but in two completely different areas giving you the benefit of dry activities on land and wet activities on the Delta waterways.

Xakanaka Camp sits in a very active area of the park in stunning forest surroundings whilst Xugana Island Lodge is on a permanent large lagoon in the heart of the Okavango Delta and just outside the Moremi Game Reserve itself.

Daily Itinerary

Arrival

Arrive into Maun Airport. You'll be greeted by charter flight company and flown to your first lodge in the Makgadikgadi

Day 1 & 2

For guests staying three nights or longer, Leroo La Tau offers one of Botswana's most memorable experiences—sleeping out under the stars on the vast Makgadikgadi Salt Pans themselves. Optional excursions include cultural visits to nearby Khumaga Village, day trips to Nxai Pan and the famous Baines' Baobabs, and seasonal boat safaris on the river when water levels permit. It's a dramatically different landscape from the lush Okavango Delta, offering a taste of Botswana's desert wilderness.

Day 3 & 4

What really gives Xakanaxa its character is the authentic old-school safari atmosphere. The main buildings – constructed from local timber, reed, and thatch – stretch out over the river on raised platforms, maximizing those gorgeous lagoon views. There's an elegant lounge with a small library, dining room, expansive sundeck, and one of the largest plunge pools in the delta. A cosy fire pit sits under giant jackalberry trees, perfect for sundowners.

Moremi Game Reserve

Day 5 & 6

The main areas are tucked under a grand canopy of ebony and African mangosteen trees, with an open boma and al fresco dining overlooking the pristine lagoon. There's a unique overwater fire-deck that extends right onto the water – perfect for sundowners. The swimming pool sits within lush gardens at the heart of the island, offering a peaceful retreat between activities. The whole atmosphere is serene and unhurried, making it ideal for anyone wanting to slow down and truly absorb the Delta experience.

Day 7

Today your safari ends and you exit by light aircraft to Maun in time for your international departures or onwards travel.
