Opened in May 2024 as the newest addition to Natural Selection's portfolio, Tawana Camp sits on the banks of the perennial Gomoti River in the iconic Moremi Game Reserve. The camp was created in partnership with Chief Tawana Moremi, the paramount chief of the Batawana tribe, whose family played a crucial role in establishing Moremi as a protected area back in 1963. It's a meaningful collaboration that honors the conservation legacy of the Batawana people while providing a base for exploring what many consider the best land-based game viewing in Botswana. The area around Tawana is genuinely wildlife-rich, with high concentrations of lion, leopard, and African wild dog regularly spotted from camp.
The eight suites are exceptionally spacious, each stretching around one hundred square meters and including three designed specifically for families. Every suite comes with its own lounge area, private wooden deck, plunge pool, and outdoor sala where you can sit and watch the surrounding floodplains. The design draws inspiration from the natural tones of the landscape and the cultural heritage of the local Batawana tribe, creating a contemporary yet grounded aesthetic. Air conditioning over the beds ensures comfort during warmer months, and the camp runs entirely on solar power with electricity available round the clock.
The main area is quite impressive, featuring an elegant lounge, indoor and outdoor dining spaces, and a curated library focused on Moremi's history and the Batawana culture. There's a walk-in wine cellar for choosing your evening pairings, a wood-fired pizza oven, and even a small spa offering treatments in the privacy of your suite. The camp is completely unfenced, so wildlife regularly wanders through.
