Moremi Game Reserve

Dry Safaris

Opened in May 2024 as the newest addition to Natural Selection's portfolio, Tawana Camp sits on the banks of the perennial Gomoti River in the iconic Moremi Game Reserve. The camp was created in partnership with Chief Tawana Moremi, the paramount chief of the Batawana tribe, whose family played a crucial role in establishing Moremi as a protected area back in 1963. It's a meaningful collaboration that honors the conservation legacy of the Batawana people while providing a base for exploring what many consider the best land-based game viewing in Botswana. The area around Tawana is genuinely wildlife-rich, with high concentrations of lion, leopard, and African wild dog regularly spotted from camp.

The eight suites are exceptionally spacious, each stretching around one hundred square meters and including three designed specifically for families. Every suite comes with its own lounge area, private wooden deck, plunge pool, and outdoor sala where you can sit and watch the surrounding floodplains. The design draws inspiration from the natural tones of the landscape and the cultural heritage of the local Batawana tribe, creating a contemporary yet grounded aesthetic. Air conditioning over the beds ensures comfort during warmer months, and the camp runs entirely on solar power with electricity available round the clock.

The main area is quite impressive, featuring an elegant lounge, indoor and outdoor dining spaces, and a curated library focused on Moremi's history and the Batawana culture. There's a walk-in wine cellar for choosing your evening pairings, a wood-fired pizza oven, and even a small spa offering treatments in the privacy of your suite. The camp is completely unfenced, so wildlife regularly wanders through.

The Accommodation

The accommodations at Tawana are seriously impressive in terms of sheer space and thoughtful design. With just eight suites total, including three specifically configured for families, the camp maintains an intimate feel while offering some of the most generous room sizes you'll find in the Delta. Each suite sprawls across roughly one hundred square meters – the family suites are even larger at around one hundred and thirty square meters – giving you plenty of room to spread out and actually live in the space rather than just sleep there.

The layout is brilliant for making the most of the location. You've got a separate lounge area inside, perfect for afternoon downtime, while the private wooden terrace extends your living space outdoors. Every suite has its own plunge pool right on the deck, which is absolutely ideal after a hot morning game drive, plus there's an outdoor sala where you can lounge with a book while keeping an eye on the wildlife moving along the riverbank. The views over the Gomoti River and surrounding floodplains are unobstructed from your terrace, and because the suites are carefully positioned among the riverine forest, you get genuine privacy despite being in an unfenced camp.

Inside, the design takes cues from the natural landscape and local Batawana culture, using earthy tones and organic materials to create a sophisticated but grounded atmosphere. The en-suite bathrooms are well-appointed with both indoor and outdoor showers plus a proper bathtub, and there's air conditioning over the beds to keep you comfortable. All the practical bits are covered too – mini-bar, coffee station, in-room safe, complimentary Wi-Fi, and even yoga mats and weights if you want to stay active between game drives.
