Okavango Delta

Dry Safaris

Mma Dinare, a name meaning "Mother Buffalo" in the local Setswana language, occupies an idyllic position overlooking the Gomoti River on the southeastern edge of the Okavango Delta. The camp sits within a 67,000-acre private concession adjacent to the Moremi Game Reserve, offering an intimate and authentic safari experience that emphasizes wildlife immersion over architectural grandeur.

The concession's southeastern positioning creates distinct seasonal wildlife dynamics. During the dry season, when game congregates around permanent water sources, wildlife density concentrates dramatically around the Gomoti River and floodplains. The landscape transitions between riverine forests, acacia and mopane woodlands, and open grasslands, creating diverse habitats that support varied fauna and avian populations. The camp itself is elevated on stilts and constructed with open-air thatched structures that harmonize with the Delta's riverine forest setting while maintaining unobstructed views across the floodplains.

The area attracts notable predator concentrations including lions, leopards, cheetahs, and African wild dogs. Buffalo herds favor the river's proximity, creating regular predator-prey interactions. Elephants, giraffe, kudu, impala, hippopotamus, and various antelope species including rare sable and roan roam the concession. Game drives accommodate maximum six guests accompanied by a guide and tracker, with night drives available for nocturnal species observation. Seasonal water levels permit mokoro canoe excursions along the river, while walking safaris explore areas dependent on vegetation density and wildlife presence.

The camp operates as an ecologically conscious facility powered by solar energy and utilizing sustainable materials and waste management systems. The relaxed, welcoming atmosphere emphasizes authentic Delta safari experiences with attentive hospitality. The Kwando Safaris operator limits the concession to 40 total guests distributed across two camps, ensuring exclusive and uncrowded game viewing opportunities throughout the year.

The Accommodation

Mma Dinare Camp comprises nine stylish canvas tents constructed in the traditional Meru style, positioned on elevated platforms connected by raised boardwalks. Each tent overlooks the Gomoti River and its adjacent floodplains, creating serene views across this wildlife-rich landscape. The eight standard guest tents and one spacious family suite reflect a commitment to comfort without sacrificing the authentic safari atmosphere that defines the Delta experience.

Each standard tent features a simple yet comfortable aesthetic that harmonizes with the natural environment. The interior layout separates functional zones with a porch entry, a front-facing lounge area furnished with sink-in armchairs and footrests, and a separated bedroom chamber. The sleeping quarters accommodate a super-king or extra-length bed (configurable as twin beds upon request), with mosquito netting, overhead ceiling fans, and bedside reading lamps integrated into the headbed. Mesh-panelled sliding doors create flexible separation between the lounge and bedroom, allowing guests to control airflow and privacy while maintaining visual connection to the floodplain views.

En-suite bathrooms feature both indoor and outdoor shower facilities, complemented by open hanging space, shelving, tea and coffee stations, writing desks, and dual charging stations equipped with international multi-plugs and USB connections. The outdoor shower represents a distinctive feature, allowing guests to bathe while observing wildlife approaching the river—an experience that defines Delta safari authenticity.

The family tent mirrors the standard tent's layout but incorporates an additional adjoining room with twin beds and a separate en-suite bathroom. The configuration accommodates up to four guests, with flexibility to add an extra bed in the main bedroom for families with more than two children.

All tents are accessed via long elevated boardwalks positioned along either side of the main camp area, preserving ground-level vegetation and establishing designated pathways. This infrastructure maintains environmental sensitivity while ensuring safe movement during rainy periods. The camp operates entirely on solar power, with complementary laundry services and daily housekeeping. The raised platform construction ensures comfortable elevations while the river-adjacent positioning creates genuine intimacy between accommodation and the floodplain landscape beyond.
