Okavango Delta

Dry Safaris

Nestled in the southern reaches of the Okavango Delta, Kiri Camp sits on a private island along the Kiri Channel, offering guests an intimate safari experience in one of Africa's most pristine wilderness areas. The camp opened in 2022 as part of the Machaba Safaris collection and quickly established itself as a thoughtfully designed retreat that prioritizes environmental sensitivity without compromising on comfort. With just ten tents total, including two family accommodations, the camp maintains an exclusive atmosphere where the focus remains firmly on the surrounding wildlife and landscape rather than the infrastructure itself.

The location proves exceptional for game viewing, with the area renowned for dramatic lion and buffalo encounters, healthy populations of wild dogs, and excellent general wildlife diversity. Being situated on a private concession means guests enjoy significant advantages over other delta camps—off-road driving when tracking animals, thrilling night drives to spot nocturnal species, and guided walking safaris through the surrounding islands. When water levels permit, traditional mokoro canoe excursions offer a completely different perspective, gliding silently through lily-filled channels at eye level with the smaller inhabitants of this aquatic wonderland.

What sets Kiri apart is how seamlessly it blends luxury with authenticity. The solar-powered camp uses locally sourced materials like wood, canvas, and reeds in its construction, creating spaces that feel like a natural extension of the ebony forest rather than an intrusion. Each tent features its own elevated deck with panoramic views, outdoor bathtubs, and en-suite facilities, while the communal areas encourage that classic safari atmosphere of swapping stories around the fire after a day spent exploring this remarkable ecosystem.

The Accommodation

The rooms at Kiri Camp offer a beautiful blend of wilderness immersion and modern comfort. The camp features ten spacious tents in total, with eight standard luxury safari tents and two larger family tents designed to accommodate groups or families traveling together. Each tent is thoughtfully positioned on elevated wooden decks that raise you above the landscape, providing sweeping views over the seasonal Kiri floodplains and surrounding ebony forests.

Inside, you'll find romantic king-sized beds that can be configured as twins if needed, while the family tents feature two separate sleeping areas with their own oversized beds. The en-suite bathrooms are well-appointed with both indoor and outdoor showers, plus a private outdoor bathtub on your deck where you can soak while watching elephants or other wildlife pass by. Hot and cold running water and western-style flush toilets ensure you don't sacrifice comfort for adventure.

The design aesthetic draws heavily from the natural surroundings, incorporating wood, canvas, and reeds to create an authentic safari atmosphere. Each tent opens almost completely at the front, dissolving the barrier between you and the landscape. The spacious private decks become your personal viewing platform, perfect for morning coffee or evening sundowners while wildlife moves through the floodplains below.

The camp runs on solar power, so you won't find air conditioning or high-energy appliances, but ceiling fans, comfortable pillows, and thoughtful design keep things pleasant even in the African heat. It's luxury that respects the wilderness rather than dominating it.
