Khwai

Dry Safaris

Khwai Lediba is a sister camp to Khwai Leadwood, located in the same exceptional wildlife area along the Khwai River but offering a slightly different experience. The camp has a more intimate and rustic feel compared to its sibling property, appealing to travelers who want excellent game viewing and comfortable accommodation without all the bells and whistles of a luxury lodge. The setting is equally beautiful, with the camp overlooking the river and seasonal floodplains that draw incredible amounts of wildlife throughout the year. There's an authenticity to Lediba that feels refreshingly straightforward—it's about being in the bush and experiencing the wildlife, without unnecessary distractions.

The wildlife opportunities here are just as impressive as anywhere else in the Khwai area, with regular sightings of the full range of predators including lions, leopards, wild dogs, and cheetahs. Elephant herds are a constant presence, and the diversity of plains game and birdlife keeps every game drive interesting. The camp offers similar activities to Leadwood—game drives, walking safaris, and seasonal water-based activities—led by knowledgeable guides who are genuinely enthusiastic about sharing the area's incredible biodiversity. The proximity to both Moremi and the community concession means you have access to varied habitats and excellent wildlife corridors.

What sets Lediba apart is its more relaxed, unfussy approach. It's perfect for travelers who prioritize wildlife experiences over accommodation luxury, or for those on a tighter budget who still want to access this remarkable area. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the guiding is professional, and you're getting the same world-class location and wildlife viewing as the pricier camps nearby, just with a more down-to-earth sensibility that many travelers actually prefer.

The Accommodation

The rooms at Khwai Lediba are comfortable and practical, designed with a focus on functionality rather than luxury. Each tent is built on a raised wooden platform and has that classic safari canvas feel that keeps you connected to the environment around you. Inside, you'll find twin or double beds with good quality linens and mosquito netting, along with basic but sturdy furniture including bedside tables, a small desk or table, and storage space for your belongings. The decor is simple and understated—nothing fancy, but everything is clean, well-maintained, and does exactly what it needs to do. There's adequate lighting for reading and getting ready, and the overall feel is cozy and unpretentious.

The en-suite bathrooms are straightforward with hot showers and flush toilets that work reliably. Some tents also have outdoor showers, which is always a nice touch when you can rinse off in the open air after a game drive. Each tent has a small private deck with a couple of chairs where you can sit and enjoy views of the surrounding bush and river area. It's not a huge space, but it's pleasant to have somewhere to sit outside your tent with a cup of coffee in the morning or to wind down in the evening while listening to the sounds of the bush.

The rooms won't wow you with design flair or luxurious amenities, but they're honest and comfortable spaces that serve their purpose well. You're here for the exceptional wildlife viewing that Khwai offers, and these tents provide a solid, no-frills base that allows you to rest properly between activities without unnecessary expense. It's accommodation that knows what it is and doesn't try to be more, which is actually quite refreshing.
