Okavango Delta

Mixed Safaris

Camp Okavango is a water-based camp located on Nxaragha Island in the permanent delta, which means you arrive by boat and spend your entire stay surrounded by water. It's one of those places where the setting immediately takes your breath away, with lily-covered channels, papyrus beds, and palm-fringed islands creating an almost dreamlike landscape. The camp has a wonderfully remote feel despite being accessible, and the constant presence of water gives it a peaceful, tranquil atmosphere that's quite different from traditional land-based safari camps.

The accommodation consists of twelve elevated tents connected by raised wooden walkways that wind through the trees. Each tent is spacious and comfortable, with large beds draped in mosquito netting, en-suite bathrooms, and private decks where you can sit and watch the water below. The design is thoughtful, blending into the natural environment while providing all the amenities you need. The main area features a lounge, dining room, and bar with expansive decks perfect for sundowners, plus a plunge pool that's ideal for cooling off during the heat of the day.

Because this is a water camp, the activities revolve around exploring the delta by mokoro canoe and motorboat rather than traditional game drives. You'll glide silently through narrow channels spotting red lechwe, elephants wading through the shallows, and an incredible variety of water birds. Guided walks on nearby islands add another dimension, and fishing is also available. It's an intimate, immersive way to experience the Okavango that feels both adventurous and relaxing.

The Accommodation

The tents at Camp Okavango are raised on wooden platforms and connected by elevated walkways that wind through the trees above the water. This elevation gives you wonderful views and keeps you safely above any visiting wildlife. Each tent is surprisingly spacious inside, with high ceilings and canvas walls that create a genuine safari atmosphere while still feeling solid and secure.

Inside, you'll find comfortable beds with crisp linens and mosquito netting draped overhead, which adds to the romantic bush camp feel. The furniture is simple but well-chosen, including bedside tables, a luggage rack, and seating where you can relax during the heat of the day. The en-suite bathrooms are well-equipped with flush toilets, hot showers, and twin vanities with proper lighting. Everything works properly, which isn't always a given at remote delta camps.

The real highlight is the private deck at the front of each tent. This becomes your personal sanctuary where you can sit with morning coffee and watch the water below, spotting passing mokoros or water birds fishing in the channels. The positioning of the tents ensures privacy, so you never feel on top of your neighbors. At night, the sounds of the delta create a natural soundtrack that makes falling asleep feel like part of the wilderness experience.
