Okavango Delta

Mixed Safaris

Perched on the edge of the Boro River within a private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, Baines’ Camp is a boutique and deeply personal safari retreat in the heart of the Okavango Delta. With just five elevated suites, this intimate camp offers exclusivity and a tranquil connection to the surrounding wilderness that feels both immersive and profoundly peaceful.

Named after the explorer and artist Thomas Baines, the camp weaves subtle colonial charm with modern comfort. Each suite features elegant canvas and wood interiors, open-air decks, and star baths—deep tubs set outdoors for moonlit soaking. The beds can be rolled out onto the private verandas, inviting guests to sleep under the vast African sky with only the sounds of the bush for company.

The setting is ideal for water-based and land safaris, offering a dynamic range of activities depending on the season. Mokoro excursions glide silently through reed-fringed channels, while walking safaris and day and night game drives unveil the Delta’s rich diversity of life, from herds of elephant to elusive leopards. The region is known for exceptional birdlife and strong populations of lion, giraffe, and wild dog.

Baines’ Camp also offers a unique, conservation-focused experience: walking with semi-habituated elephants. This remarkable encounter brings guests into quiet, respectful contact with these intelligent animals and supports their long-term welfare.

Serene, soulful, and thoughtfully curated, Baines’ Camp is ideal for travellers seeking privacy, intimacy, and a deeper sense of place within Botswana’s most iconic ecosystem.

The Accommodation

The rooms at Baines Camp are very romantic – and I mean that in the best possible way. Recently rebuilt in 2025, this intimate little camp has just six suites perched on stilts above the Boro River, all connected by wooden walkways that give the whole place a slightly nautical vibe. It's one of those spots where you immediately feel like you're in your own private corner of the delta.

What makes these suites special is how they blur the line between inside and out. The interiors are elegant without being fussy – soft tones inspired by the delta's flora, rich timber, open-plan layouts that flow naturally. Large overhangs shade your private deck where you'll find an outdoor bath and shower. Perfect for a soak while watching hippos drift past below.

But here's the real showstopper: each suite has a mobile four-poster bed that can be wheeled right out onto your deck. Yes, you can actually sleep under the Okavango stars if you fancy it, which honestly sounds incredible. Inside you'll find all the essentials – ceiling fans, mosquito nets, minibar, safe – plus the views from every angle look almost painted.

The whole camp was thoughtfully designed using sustainable timber that can be removed without leaving a trace after twenty years. It's luxury that treads lightly, which somehow makes it feel even more special.
