Pom Pom Camp occupies a remote and scenic position on Pom Pom Island within a private concession located in the heart of the Okavango Delta. Positioned on the western boundary of the renowned Moremi Game Reserve and accessible only by light aircraft from Maun, this intimate property represents the quintessential African safari camp—combining rustic authenticity with essential comforts while prioritizing wilderness immersion over elaborate luxury.

The island's landscape features sweeping floodplain grasslands interspersed with acacia-dotted islands, framed by the permanent Pom Pom Lagoon that defines the camp's position and wildlife viewing opportunities. The concession sits at the headwaters of the Xudum River system, an ecological position that ensures year-round water availability and consistent wildlife presence. The area benefits from both land and water habitats, permitting diverse activity options throughout all seasons. The private concession allows operational flexibility unavailable at many Delta camps, particularly regarding vehicle access and activity timing.

Nine luxury Meru-style canvas tents positioned on raised wooden decks beneath ancient jackalberry and Ilala palm trees create an iconic safari aesthetic. Each tent opens onto a private veranda overlooking Pom Pom Lagoon, where guests frequently observe wildlife approaching the water without leaving their accommodation. A distinctive honeymoon suite features an outdoor bathtub with scenic panoramic views, while a family tent accommodates up to four guests with an adjoining second bedroom. The main lodge comprises thatched and canvas structures housing a lounge, dining area, bar, and outdoor boma gathering space, with a swimming pool positioned nearby. Notably, the camp deliberately operates without electricity, relying instead on atmospheric paraffin lamps that enhance the authentic wilderness experience and create a romantic evening ambiance.

The Accommodation

Pom Pom Camp comprises nine luxury Meru-style tented suites positioned on elevated wooden decks beneath a dense canopy of ancient jackalberry and Ilala palm trees. Each accommodation overlooks the reed-fringed Pom Pom Lagoon, creating intimate and private perspectives across this serene wildlife viewing landscape. The rooms reflect traditional African safari aesthetics combined with practical comfort suitable for extended wilderness stays.

The seven standard guest tents feature a distinctive spatial organization that separates functional zones while maintaining visual cohesion. Entry leads through sliding wooden doors into a front lounge area furnished with comfortable seating, a writing desk, and armchairs positioned to frame lagoon views. Mesh-netted windows allow natural ventilation while maintaining insect protection. The lounge connects through a secondary canvas partition to a separate sleeping chamber configured with either double or twin bed arrangements, each draped with mosquito netting. Ceiling fans provide active cooling during warmer months, while the tent structure naturally facilitates air circulation. The sleeping quarters open directly onto the private deck overlooking the lagoon—an informal extension of the bedroom where guests observe passing wildlife without leaving their accommodation.

The en-suite bathrooms, positioned at the rear of each tent, feature a pragmatic design philosophy emphasizing natural immersion over constructed luxury. Twin hand basins, flushing toilets, and both indoor plumbing and outdoor showers characterize these facilities. Notably, the outdoor shower represents the defining feature—an open-air bathing experience allowing guests to shower while remaining visually connected to the surrounding landscape and lagoon views.

Tent Nine functions as an exclusive honeymoon accommodation, incorporating all standard amenities while adding a distinctive luxury element: an outdoor bathtub positioned with scenic vistas. This elevated tub permits romantic bathing experiences while framing views across the lagoon through a leafy natural backdrop. The tent's positioning at the camp's periphery provides enhanced privacy from other guest areas.

The family tent accommodates up to four guests (two adults and two children) through a connected configuration featuring two bedrooms—a primary adult chamber and a secondary twin-bedded room—sharing a single en-suite bathroom facility. The family tent maintains close proximity to the main lodge, facilitating easier access for families with younger children navigating nighttime pathways.
