Thorntree River Lodge sits on a private stretch of the upper Zambezi River, around 15 kilometres upstream from Livingstone, where the river moves with quiet purpose through a landscape of riverine forest and open floodplains. The lodge takes its name from the acacia thorntree woodland that frames the property, and the connection to the river defines everything here — from the gentle sounds that carry across the water at dusk to the hippos that surface regularly within sight of the main deck.
Accommodation is spread across a small number of chalets built close to the riverbank, each designed to make the most of the views while keeping a low environmental footprint. The style is relaxed and understated, leaning into the natural surroundings rather than competing with them.
Guests come primarily for river activities — sunset cruises, canoeing, fishing — alongside day trips to Victoria Falls, which is close enough to visit without dominating the experience.
