Savuti Camp sits on the banks of the enigmatic Savuti Channel in the private Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, and it's one of those places where the location really is everything. The channel itself is fascinating – it flows and dries up seemingly at random, independent of rainfall patterns elsewhere. After being dry for nearly 30 years, it started flowing again in 2008, which completely transformed the area and brought incredible concentrations of wildlife back. The camp is small and intimate with just six or seven tented suites, so you get that exclusive feel without the crowds you'd find in the national parks.
The setup is classic Wilderness Safaris style, with the camp raised on wooden platforms overlooking the channel. There's a comfortable thatched dining area, a small plunge pool, and a large viewing deck with a fire pit where you can sit and watch the constant parade of wildlife coming down to drink. One of the standout features is the star bed – a two-story sleep-out deck positioned to overlook the Zibadianja Lagoon where the channel originates. Sleeping out there under the African stars with just the sounds of the bush around you is pretty unforgettable.
Wildlife viewing here is exceptional, particularly during the dry season from June to August. The area is famous for its enormous elephant populations that gather in huge numbers, plus you've got excellent chances of seeing all the major predators including lions, leopards, wild dogs, and cheetah. Activities include game drives, night drives, bush walks, seasonal boating when water levels allow, and time spent in the hide watching animals up close. Being in a private concession means you can do off-road driving and night activities, which adds a lot to the experience.
