Sandibe sits in a private concession right next to Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta, and it's honestly one of the most architecturally striking lodges you'll find anywhere in Africa. The main building is designed to look like a giant pangolin, with this incredible curved wooden structure covered in what looks like scales. It's built into the forest canopy among massive fig trees and palms, and the whole effect is pretty spectacular. The lodge has access to around 22,500 hectares of private land, so you're not dealing with other vehicles crowding your game viewing.
The twelve guest suites are designed to resemble weaver bird nests, which sounds quirky but actually works beautifully. Each one is raised up above the papyrus-lined channels and forest floor, giving you excellent views while keeping you safe from any wandering wildlife. Inside, they're seriously luxurious with contemporary African styling, and every suite has its own private plunge pool and deck. The bathrooms are pretty special too, with both indoor and outdoor showers. You'll also get air conditioning, which is a nice touch during the hotter months.
What sets Sandibe apart is the combination of exceptional game viewing and top-tier comfort. The area is known for excellent predator sightings and healthy populations of elephant, buffalo, and general plains game. Activities are entirely land-based here – game drives and bush walks with really knowledgeable guides – so if you want the water-based mokoro experience, you'd need to combine it with another camp. The service is excellent, the food is outstanding, and the whole experience feels very refined without being stuffy.
