Qorokwe sits in a private concession in the southeastern part of the Okavango Delta, right on the border of Moremi Game Reserve. The name translates to something like "the place where the buffalo broke through the bush into the water," which gives you a good sense of what you're in for. The camp overlooks a beautiful lagoon that's fed by the Santantadibe River, and because there's permanent water here year-round, the wildlife viewing is consistently excellent. The surrounding landscape is classic Delta territory – a mix of mopane woodland, palm-dotted islands, seasonal floodplains, and meandering waterways.
The camp itself has a really contemporary feel compared to more traditional safari lodges. The main area is all open-sided with stunning views across the lagoon, and there's an infinity pool that practically hangs over the water's edge, plus a circular firepit that's perfect for evening sundowners. The whole place runs on solar power, which is pretty impressive given how comfortable everything is. The central area houses the dining room, lounge, library, and bar, all connected by raised wooden walkways. You can eat in the main dining area, out on the deck, or under the stars in the traditional boma, and they even have a pizza oven which feels wonderfully unexpected out here in the bush.
What makes Qorokwe special is the diversity of activities available. You can do game drives to see the area's impressive predator populations – including a resident pride of around fifteen lions – as well as guided walks, mokoro trips through the channels, and occasionally motorboat excursions depending on water levels. The birding is exceptional too, with the area recognized as an Important Birding Area internationally.
