Mpala Jena sits on a private concession along the Zambezi, roughly 40 kilometers upstream from Victoria Falls. The camp consists of nine tented suites positioned along the riverbank, each elevated on wooden decking to capture views over the water. Elephants crossing between islands and hippos in the shallows provide regular entertainment from your tent's viewing deck.
The setup balances canvas-and-pole safari aesthetics with solid comforts: proper beds, en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, and air conditioning for the valley heat. Each tent includes a plunge pool on the deck, which actually matters given Zambezi temperatures. The main area overlooks a wide river bend where game comes to drink.
Activities split between water-based experiences—sunset cruises, fishing, canoeing when conditions allow—and traditional game drives through the concession. Wildlife viewing is legitimate: elephant, buffalo, and occasional predators, though this isn't the Okavango Delta. Victoria Falls itself requires a transfer, typically arranged for one morning during your stay. The camp works best for travelers wanting a bush experience alongside their falls visit rather than just a hotel base.
