Chitabe sits on a beautiful tree-filled island in the southeast corner of the Okavango Delta, within a private 28,000-hectare concession that's bordered on three sides by the Moremi Game Reserve. What makes this place genuinely special is the incredible diversity of habitats packed into the area – open floodplains dotted with ilala palms, classic savannah grasslands, dense acacia and mopane woodland, marshlands, and waterways all converging to create what's essentially a year-round wildlife paradise.
The camp has recently been rebuilt with a fresh, sustainable design while keeping the magic that's made it a beloved Okavango destination for over three decades. It accommodates just sixteen guests in eight spacious Meru-style tents, each individually decorated with contemporary styling, cheerful pops of color, and stunning wildlife photography. The tents are perched on elevated wooden decks connected by meandering walkways through jackalberry and African ebony trees, offering spectacular views across the floodplains.
The main lodge is built on raised platforms with a thatched dining room, separate lounge and bar area facing west for those legendary fiery sunsets, a cosy library, well-stocked gift shop, and a delightfully cool plunge pool surrounded by loungers – perfect for lazy afternoons watching wildlife parade past. There's even a gym if you're feeling energetic.
What really sets Chitabe apart is the wildlife viewing. This is predator heaven – the area is renowned for lions, leopards (over fifty recorded here), cheetahs including the famous "Supermom" who's raised multiple cubs, wild dogs, and spotted hyenas. The diversity of habitats means you're seeing different species constantly, from big game like elephants and buffalo to plains animals in numbers that support these healthy predator populations. It's genuinely exceptional game viewing year-round.
