Sindabezi Island occupies a small private island in the Zambezi River, around 12 kilometres upstream from Victoria Falls on the Zambian side, and operates as the wilder, more stripped-back sibling to the nearby Tongabezi Lodge. Where Tongabezi leans into design and individuality, Sindabezi leans into the island itself — five open-fronted chalets, ten guests at capacity, zero grid dependence, and a setting that does most of the heavy lifting.
The island sits within the Zambezi floodplain with Victoria Falls National Park visible across the water, and the resident wildlife — hippos, elephants on the banks, abundant birdlife — keeps the experience feeling genuinely immersive rather than curated. Nights are lit by hurricane lamps and candles, mornings announced by the river and whatever has come to drink nearby.
Guests access the island by boat, which reinforces the sense of remove from the moment of arrival. For those wanting to explore the falls and surrounds, Tongabezi's full activity programme is available, making Sindabezi a rare combination — one of the most peaceful bases in the region, yet positioned within easy reach of one of Africa's most dramatic natural landmarks.
