Sable Alley sits in an absolutely prime location within the Khwai Private Reserve in the eastern part of the Okavango Delta, right on the border of Moremi Game Reserve. The camp overlooks a gorgeous lily-covered lagoon that's home to a resident pod of hippos, and it's a favorite drinking spot for elephants and buffalo who wander through daily. The camp gets its name from the sable antelope – those beautiful and rather elusive animals that live in the surrounding woodlands. The 200,000-hectare private concession means you get real exclusivity here, with only a handful of camps sharing the entire area.
The camp itself is bright, modern, and surprisingly stylish for a bush camp. There are twelve spacious tented suites, all raised on wooden decks with private verandas that look straight out over the lagoon – you can literally watch wildlife from your bed. The design is contemporary with lots of natural wood and light tones, and each tent has both indoor and outdoor showers plus all the creature comforts you'd expect. Two of the tents are set up as family units with interconnecting rooms, and there's also a special honeymoon tent that's positioned separately for extra privacy. The main area has a lovely pool, fire pit, lounge, and dining spaces, all perfectly positioned to take advantage of the constant wildlife show happening at the water's edge.
Game viewing here is exceptional year-round. The diverse habitats support massive herds of plains game and some of the best predator densities in Botswana – lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, and hyena are all regularly spotted. Activities include morning and evening game drives, walking safaris with armed guides, and when water levels allow, mokoro trips through the channels.
