The River Club is a charming oasis on the Zambezi River situated 18 kilometres upstream from the renowned Victoria Falls – a World Heritage Site. Overlooking the river and pods of hippo into the Zambezi National Park, the 11 luxury chalets, with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, are renowned for their spectacular views and romantic ambience. Each room looks west into the glorious African sunset, best viewed from the privacy of the ball-and-claw bath.
Soaked in history, the restored 1940s homestead has a comfortable lounge, dining room, library and veranda where breakfasts and teas are enjoyed. Midday meals are often served in the lush gardens spread out beneath the trees, a Pimm’s can be sipped while playing croquet, or one can simply relax at the pool with its infinite view of the sparkling Zambezi River.
Although The River Club is not a traditional safari camp, elephant can often be seen in the Zambezi National Park and hippo are regularly seen in the river. The nearby Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is home to an abundance of wildlife including buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, impala and white rhino. There is rich birdlife too, including several sought-after species such as African finfoot, half-collared kingfisher, Schalow's turaco and seasonal sightings of African skimmer and rock pratincole.
The River Club’s proximity to Victoria Falls and location on the banks of the Zambezi River offers a unique blend of safari and adventure activities.
A World Heritage Site, Victoria Falls straddles the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia and is the most expansive curtain of water in the world. View its roaring waters, spectacular spray and a small rainforest that clings to the Falls’ edge, with a variety of mammals and birds.
Game drives into the Zambezi National Park or nearby Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park (in open or closed safari vehicles) offer various wildlife viewing opportunities, such as elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and white rhino, as well as diverse birdlife.
Relaxing sunset cruises along the Zambezi offer the perfect opportunity to spot a variety of birdlife, as well as plenty of hippo and crocodile in the river.
Cultural visits to the nearby Simonga village provides an insight into the ways of life and traditional customs of the local people. The River Club is involved in upliftment projects here which focus on assisting children via schooling and provide important services to the village.
The River Club has a summer house with snooker room, infinity swimming pool overlooking the Zambezi River and croquet on the lawn. For the energetic, there is a gym, running track and tennis court. Nature walks are offered on the property.
Adrenalin activities on offer in the area include helicopter flights, micro-lighting, canoeing, jet boating, white water rafting, river boarding, abseiling, specialist birding, and a Livingstone Island lunch, to name a few. At additional cost.
