Sango Safari Camp is a rustic bush camp set on the banks of the Khwai River just outside Khwai Village.
This simple camp takes full advantage of this excellent area by proving good accommodation levels with excellent activities in this very good game rich concession, all at an affordable price.
Its the simplicity and unpretentious attitude at this camp that we love. The owners are also well known for running Mobile Camping Safaris throughout Botswana and they are very experienced in providing a top notch service at a good price. Admittedly, this is not an opulent camp, but its not meant to be, its more about stories around the campfire and good accommodation coupled with a GREAT wildlife area. Sango is one of our favourite camps.

The wildlife viewing is generated around similar species to that of the general Oakavango Delta. In and around Khwai you can see general plains game such as elephant, impala, zebra and wildebeest sable antelope with great concentrations of lion, leopard and hyena. In recent seasons there have also been good numbers of wild dogs and some occasional cheetah.
The more aquatic animals like hippo, waterbuck and red lechwe are generally always seen depending on the area visited.
Birdlife is also strong and concentrates on the main river area where lovely flocks of pygmy goose and white-faced ducks mingle with spur-winged goose, comb ducks and African Jacanas.
Sango Safari Camp is nestled in the shade of the trees overlooking the Khwai River.
Situated on the outskirts of the traditional village of Khwai and on the border of Moremi Game Reserve, the camp offers guests the perfect base from which to explore the wildlife and culture of this unique habitat.
The lodge itself sits on the banks of the Khwai River in the concession. It is a simple rustic affair with a main lounge and dining tented area with an outside fire-pit. this whole area is right on the river with good and uninterrupted views
The lounge aea has a stand up bar at the back for your drinks service and the relaxation area is a combination of large cloth armchairs and locally made metal framed day-beds. Added to this is an array of simple African curio style furniture including wooden drink stands and coffee table.
To the other side of the tented main area is a big dining space with a large dining table with director style safari chairs.
As you walk out of the lounge area to the left and downstream past all the accommodation is a swimming pool and an excellent viewing platform or hide, which is raised quite high and affords you one of the best views of any lodge in the area, covering quite a large expanse of the Khwai River.
Accommodating 12 guests in six en-suite meru tents Sango Safari Camp is designed in the style of the classic tented safari camp of days gone by.
With its open-air bucket showers, hand crafted furnishings and classic styling Sango aims to rekindle the atmosphere of the luxury mobile safari camp, successfully blending the rustic with the luxurious. The accommodation is in reasonably spacious Meru style tents domonated by a large bed in middle with four poster mosquito cloth protection and flanked by large wooden storage chests.
A wooden door to the rear leads to a simple toilet and bathroom area.
The camp sits right on the Khwai River in the Khwai Community Concession, and just outside of the Khwai Village itself.
This area is deemed to be a public concession and is of outstanding beauty, its reputation is in that the diversity of game and vegetation is nearly unique in Botswana for what is quite a small concession.
Much smaller in size, its real benefit is accessibility, and differences in accommodation, which is mostly more affordable in terms of its lodges and its suitability for Mobile Camping Safaris and Self Drivers.
The main border is along the Khwai River, the other borders being Moremi Game Reserve to the west and south, the entrance to the Savuti area to the north and a little used area of the Chobe National. This concession is run by the members of the Khwai Village community and extends from their village to Mababe village to the east.
