Prestigious camp promoting opulence in one of the best wildlife areas

Moremi Game Reserve - DRY Camp

Definitely a 5 star camp. It is probably the best camp in Botswana that manages to combine sublime and subtle opulence whilst still maintaining the feeling of being a "bush Camp"
It is perfectly situated overlooking a vast floodplain whilst protected in a tree lined island, the area is a captured environment for large numbers of game. Not many camp camps in Botswana maintain the extraordinary numbers of game actually in the camp itself, and its not at all uncommon to see a whole herd of buffalo sleep at night under the high walkways that criss-cross the camp.
Service levels here are extremely high, from the standard of the accommodation to the food... Fantastic...!

The Mombo Concession is known as the “place of plenty”, highlighted by the massive concentrations of plains game and predators that can be seen. These include all the big cats, of which lion sightings are frequent. You can also expect to see leopard and cheetah, spotted hyaena, large herds of buffalo, elephant, white rhino, giraffe, blue wildebeest, Burchell's zebra and much more. Birdlife is prolific around Mombo with African jacana, pygmy-geese, goliath heron and migrant waders in summer being particularly common.
Game drives via open 4x4 Land Rovers each accommodate a maximum of six or seven guests, allowing each guest a 'window' seat. Please note that as we are in Moremi Game Reserve, night drives are not possible at Mombo Camp, however, this is still some of the best game viewing you will see in Botswana.
There is a hide 20 minutes from camp from which you can view and photograph animals and birds
Mombo Camp has arguably the some of the best big game viewing in Africa. Located in the Mombo Concession on Chief's Island in the heart of the Okavango Delta, Botswana, the sheer numbers and variety of wildlife all year round defy description. Mombo Camp is the Africa only seen in documentaries: from elephant to buffalo to tiny steenbok, vast herds of herbivores are trailed by numerous predators on the hunt!
The Lodge is located in the Mombo Concession on the northern tip of Chief's Island within the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. This area boasts enormous concentrations of plains game and predators - providing arguably the best big game viewing in all of Africa
Built under large, shady trees and overlooking the floodplains which teem with wildlife all year round, Mombo Camp's main living and dining areas are under thatch, but a boma adds traditional flavour to a delicious dinner under the stars. There is also a plunge pool in which to relax in the heat of the day and a small library exists for reading materiel about the area.
The best big game viewing experience starts on the veranda at Mombo Camp, with wonderful concentrations of game occurring right in front of the camp. You may often find animals wandering past, right under their rooms! The beautiful lounge is where most people congregate over a coffee or a glass of wine to talk about the days events, whilst having a marvellous view over the floodplains.
The tented accommodation fan out from either direction off the main living area. These tents area reachable via wooden and gumpole walkways that are raised enough for game to pass under. Certain areas of these walkways dip down to ground level in order to preserve age old elephant routes and allow these mighty beast to gently step over them. One end of the camp hosts only tented accommodation, whilst the other end also houses a separate lounge and pool area, together with an exercise room and curio shop.
Mombo Camp comprises nine very spacious luxury tents raised two metres from the ground. All tents are designed to maximise the view over the floodplains in front of camp. No tent is too close together thus allowing for total privacy
The tent interiors are elegantly furnished with polished parquet floors which lends itself to an old school safari camp feel. Furniture is tastefully provided in African style with a large lounge suite and writing table. There is an outdoor sala for relaxation, again with views over the floodplain.
The tents themselves are rather long and spacious and have a veranda that runs the full length at the front overlooking the views. En-suite bathrooms with inside and outside and showers are provided to very high standards.
Large and very comfortable beds are in situ as either a twin bedded arrangement of double bed, both with high quality linen. The bed is at night surrounded by mosquito netting and a fan is provided against the heat.
The Mombo Concession comprises 45 000 hectares of the Moremi Game Reserve and is located on Chief’s Island in the central Okavango Delta. In the interior of Chief’s Island, mopane woodland is interspersed with belts of Kalahari sand and acacia. Towards the edges of the island regular seasonal flooding creates shallow floodplains dotted with wild date palm islands and riverine forest
Mombo Camp is located in a drier region of the Okavango Delta which is quite unlike the water-inundated areas elsewhere. Habitats here vary from secluded island sanctuaries with papyrus fringed channels to low sandy islands and dry grasslands where the vegetation and wildlife flourish.
Mombo Camp is more familiar to those who dream of the Africa of wildlife documentaries with open grassland plains dotted with acacia trees and thickets. Ancient floodplains, long since dried up, form permanent savannah divided by swathes of dense mopane and acacia woodland. Raised, tree-covered islands ranging from a single termite mound to large landmasses are common. Trees such as real fan palms, sycamore figs, jackalberry and mangosteen characterise these island communities separated by open grassland and fragrant wild sage.
Little Mombo and Mombo Camp are situated on Mombo Island, an extension of the north-western end of Chief's Island which effectively splits the Okavango Delta into east and west. The whole of Mombo and Chief's Island fall within the Moremi Game Reserve. This zone is also marked for low intensity safari usage, making both Little Mombo and Mombo Camp incredibly exclusive and remote.
Mombo Camp itself is situated in a belt of trees on an island which overlooks a floodplain. This area boasts enormous concentrations of plains game and predators - providing arguably the best big game viewing in all of Africa.
