Little Machaba Map
The smaller sister camp of the main Machaba... what impresses you most is that you would not even know that there is another camp around the corner.
Even though you could walk between the two, Little Machaba remains tucked away and private with no visible signs of the main camp at all.
The tents are the same as are the services and the activities, but Little Machaba provides you with a more intimate and personal feel due to the much smaller number of tents.... this camp is a lovely and secluded addition to the main camp.

The wildlife viewing is generated around similar species to that of the general Oakavango Delta. In and around Khwai you can see general plains game such as elephant, impala, zebra and wildebeest sable antelope with great concentrations of lion, leopard and hyena. In recent seasons there have also been good numbers of wild dogs and some occasional cheetah.
The more aquatic animals like hippo, waterbuck and red lechwe are generally always seen depending on the area visited.
Birdlife is also strong and concentrates on the main river area where lovely flocks of pygmy goose and white-faced ducks mingle with spur-winged goose, comb ducks and African Jacanas.
Machaba Camp is situated in the game rich Khwai area, on the eastern tongue of the Okavango Delta. The name Machaba is the local Setswana name for the Sycamore Fig Tree, the tree of life. The Machaba tree abounds in the Okavango Delta and most African riverine forests.
Machaba trees are renowned for their abundant fruit, which feed a vast array of animals throughout the year, including elephant, baboons, bush buck, green pigeons and many more.
The camp is built in the classic 1950's style, with luxury safari tents, en-suite bathrooms and living areas, not forgetting the romantic outdoor showers. All the tents are situated on the ground and the pathways to the tents meander between the large riverine trees
Little Machaba Camp is an exclusive 8 bed luxury safari camp with luxury safari tents, en-suite bathrooms and living areas, not forgetting the romantic outdoor showers. All the tents are situated on decks and the pathways to the tents meander between the large riverine trees.

The room are all fanned out either side of the main lodge and all have views over the floodplains of the Khwai River and are secluded enough from each other being set in quite thick bush.
Similarly to the main camp, for the daily rate of this camp, the rooms are some of the best in Botswana. They are quite cavernous in size and made from grey canvas and steel poles. Each tent as standard has a small seating area outside with chairs for you to relax in and a table and a canvas washbasin to wash you hands in. Through a large zipped doorway (in traditional African bush camp style) you are led into the main area comprising of a large room with a very large "campaign" style steel bed. Grass matting covers most of the floor and there is a lovely writing table, lamp and chair together with a beautiful soft armchair.
A canvas slipway to the rear leads you to the large ablution area with unusually designed his and hers wash basins with his and hers leather-clad hanging mirrors. Also in this area is a good sized internal shower and toilet. There is also a doorway that leads to a lovely and unique outside shower... unique as in the shower's effect is that it passes through a bucket... those of us who travel to the bush often, know exactly what a bucket shower is!
The family rooms are simply vast, with two adjoining tents with a lounge area in the middle with sofas etc...
The camp sits right on the Khwai River in the Khwai Community Concession on the border of the Moremi Game Reserve.
This area is deemed to be a public concession and is of outstanding beauty, delivering the same reputation as Moremi, in that the diversity of game and vegetation is shared. Much smaller in size, its real benefit is accessibility and differences in accommodation, which is mostly more affordable in terms of its lodges and its suitability for Mobile Safaris and Self Drivers.
Machaba Camp sits in a very thick area right on the river in the concession, our view is that it holds the best spot of any lodge. Pretty much every lodge maintains the policy of guiding guests back their tent in darker hours, none more so important as at Machaba as there are many predators in the area and the thick bush makes them harder to spot.
