Little Kwara Map
Little Kwara sits a little too close to its sister camp, Kwara, for our liking. It is however the better camp to visit as it is more intimate and up to date. This little camp has bags of character and provides you with every comfort you need in their spacious accommodations and lovely main lounge.
As ever with this management company, it is the game experience here that is key. The guides and trackers are very well trained and they share an instinctive enthusiasm for the bush and often go out on their own when there are no guests to guide.
Their skill really shows when tracking lion or cheetah when it is often the tracking itself that is the interesting part of the day.
The region is excellent for game and pretty much every broad spectrum of animal and birdlife is covered here. So, all in all, coupled with the relaxed and very smart camp, we have no problem in recommending Little Kwara as your wildlife destination.

This area shares a similar region to the northern area of the Moremi Game Reserves and you could argue that the Kwara concession diminates the central to northern area of the Delta. Ads such its is the incredible array of wildlife habitat which dictates what can =be seen here.
You will definitely find elephants here but perhaps not in the huge numbers you can see in the Chobe or Linyanti areas. The same can be said of buffalo eve though large herds are often seen here. With these beast come the predators with lion, hyena, leopard being especially prevalent. The Kwara rae is also know for good sighting of cheetah and sometimes wild dogs.
Plains game are abundant here, sighting are especially enriched by Red Lechwe in the waterways and also the beautiful sable antelope.
With some of the lagoons ion the area being approachable by boat, Kwara has been very fortunate over a number of years to winess huge heronries where many birds are happy to nest, this is trully one specatcle not to be missed and a real feature of the Okavango Delta
Little Kwara operates game drives using a guide and tracker, this adds to the experience on two levels. You have two sets of eyes searching out the action, looking for tracks – this ensures a good chance of sightings, especially predators. In addition, having the tracker out front, concentrating on tracking, means that the guide is more able to talk to clients, keep them informed and answer all their questions, it leads to a more relaxed, convivial game drive atmosphere.
As Little Kwara is in a private concession there is the opportunity to drive off road in search of sightings and also it means the camp is able to drive at night with spotlights. 30% of fascinating mammals are mainly active at night, so this gives us more opportunities to find them.
The mokoro trip is the quintessential delta experience. There is nothing more relaxing than poling along the lagoon and channels with your guide, soaking up the atmosphere and seeing things from a totally different perspective. The excursion is broken by morning tea on an island followed by a short, non-strenuous walk to have a chance to experience the bush from ground level before heading back to camp in the mokoro.
Fishing is also offered at Little Kwara for 10 months of the year, but is prohibited in January and February, as this is peak breeding season. Basic equipment is supplied, but avid fly-fishers are advised to bring their own equipment.
There is a double deck boat available at Little Kwara which is the perfect way to travel along the waterways and have a great view of what is going on at the water’s edge and beyond. From August to December we also offer visits to the Godikwe Heronry, a very worthwhile experience for birders.
This exclusive camp is located within the game rich Kwara concession, which borders the Moremi Game Reserve on the northern edge of the Okavango Delta. This is an intimate camp, accommodating no more than 10 guests, and is consistent with Kwando Safaris promise to provide intimate camps with personal service - vintage Africa. Being a small camp, it lends itself perfectly to honeymooners or to small groups who can take over the whole camp.
Little Kwara offers all the activities one expects in an exclusive concession in the Okavango Delta - day and night drives, game walks, power boating, mokoro trips and fishing (spinning equipment is provided but fly fishermen need to bring their own equipment).
This camp is the smaller sister to the nearby Kwara Camp and is designed to offer the same facilities and game viewing experiences but in a more intimate fashion.
The main living area is on a raised deck and is constructed with gumpoles and a canvas roof which seems to sit perfectly in its forested environment. The lounge area provides you with comfortable fabric settees and armchairs where you may relax with your drink or sit at the bar nearby. A small veranda sits outside with extra seating and adds to the value of the small size of this lodge, as wherever you position yourself you are rewarded with great views over the plains.
Walk down some stairs to the front and lead yourself to a decked swimming pool to one side with more seating, all of which sits under a large tree. Close to this area is a covered dining room.
There are just five luxury tents in this camp, they nestle under the shade of tall trees on raised platforms and each has a wonderful view over the floodplain. The tents are well spaced ensuring privacy and are accessed via a raised walkway which joins them to the main camp.
Each room is sizeable enough and is dominated by a large bed and seating area. The beds all face out onto the veranda with more seating which is reachable via a large wooden gauze-covered sliding door. The en-suite bathroom sits behind the bed area and includes twin basins, a claw and ball foot bath and an exit to an outside shower
The camp setting, on an island populated with tall trees within the large Kwara private concession. Spanning an area of 175 000 ha (432 000 acres), the concession is home to just two camps, Kwara and Little Kwara, between the two camps there is a total of only 13 guest tents, which guarantees an exclusive experience.
The concession shares a 30km water boundary with the famous Moremi Game Reserve and it’s unique location boasts both permanent water and seasonal flood plains as well as extensive dry bush wilderness. Favoured by labyrinths of permanent water channels and secret islands this area offers the perfect delta experience, and is considered to be amongst the best in Botswana for game viewing and activities.
