Rustic Bush Camp in a very strong wildlife area
Okavango Delta - Kwara Concession
2017 $602 - $1058
Okavango Delta - DRY Camp
Price Range (2017)
$602 - $1058
Kwara Camp is let down a little bit due to the camp being in need of refurbishment. Also, its sister camp, Little Kwara, is a bit too close for comfort and this means that there may be more vehicles around a sighting than expected. However, we still thoroughly recommend Kwara Camp due to the ethos of the management company, who profess to be unashamedly game orientated, something which Safari Lifestyles subscribes to so we would easily overlook these minor issues.
Do not expect to be overly pampered her, you will of course stay in more than adequate accommodation and the main area is traditional bush camp in style. It is the game experience that is key.
The company still operates vehicles that seat a maximum of 6 people, sometimes with no roof for better visibility, and more importantly they retain a tracker policy. It is a huge advantage to have a professionally trained tracker who sits on the front of the vehicle as well as the professional guide! In this way you will experience a safari the way it should be. As stated, the camp could do with refurbishment but we would thoroughly recommend Kwara over many other more expensive camps because of their gaming experience

This area shares a similar region to the northern area of the Moremi Game Reserves and you could argue that the Kwara concession dominates the central to northern area of the Delta. Ads such its is the incredible array of wildlife habitat which dictates what can =be seen here.
You will definitely find elephants here but perhaps not in the huge numbers you can see in the Chobe or Linyanti areas. The same can be said of buffalo eve though large herds are often seen here. With these beast come the predators with lion, hyena, leopard being especially prevalent. The Kwara area is also know for good sighting of cheetah and sometimes wild dogs.
Plains game is abundant here, sightings are especially enriched by Red Lechwe in the waterways and also the beautiful sable antelope.
With some of the lagoons ion the area being approachable by boat, Kwara has been very fortunate over a number of years to witness huge heronries where many birds are happy to nest, this is truly one spectacle not to be missed and a real feature of the Okavango Delta.
Kwara operates game drives using a guide and tracker, this adds to the experience on two levels. You have two sets of eyes searching out the action, looking for tracks – this ensures a good chance of sightings, especially predators. In addition, having the tracker out front, concentrating on tracking, means that the guide is more able to talk to clients, keep them informed and answer all their questions, it leads to a more relaxed, convivial game drive atmosphere.
As Kwara is in a private concession the camp has the opportunity to drive off road in search of sightings and also it means they are able to drive at night with spotlights. 30% of fascinating mammals are mainly active at night, so this gives you more opportunities to find them.
The mokoro trip is the quintessential delta experience. There is nothing more relaxing than poling along the lagoon and channels with your guide, soaking up the atmosphere and seeing things from a totally different perspective. The excursion is broken by morning tea on an island followed by a short, non-strenuous walk to have a chance to experience the bush from ground level before heading back to camp in the mokoro.
Fishing is also offered at Kwara for 10 months of the year, but is prohibited in January and February as this is peak breeding season. Basic equipment is supplied, but avid fly- fishers are advised to bring their own equipment.
There is a double deck boat available at Kwara which is the perfect way to travel along the waterways and have a great view of what is going on at the water’s edge and beyond. From August to December we also offer visits to the Godikwe Heronry, a very worthwhile experience for birders.
This well known camp is set overlooking a secluded lagoon in a private concession bordering the north of the Moremi Game Reserve. This region offers a contrasting experiences, as its location allows access to the permanent waterways of the Delta as well as expansive dry land areas, admired for their quality game viewing.
Kwara offers, within the exclusive concession in which it is located, a wide variety of activities. In addition to game drives, both day and night with trackers, the camp offers game walks and mokoro trips, as well as power boating and fishing (spinning equipment is provided but fly fisherman need to bring their own equipment).
The main area has a plunge pool, bar, lounge and also a hide. Just in front, towards the lagoon is the fire pit where a light breakfast is served each day before heading off on activities, and stories are told after supper in the evenings.
The simple arrangement of the main living area exists under a large canvassed tent that is built utilising the trees that actually grow through it. The simply furnished lounge and bar can be found here as well as the curio shop. There is a separate thatched dining area.
In a further area is the decked plunge pool that is furnished with sun loungers.
Accommodation is reached via bush paths. Each of the 8 tents is situated on a deck, (some are raised), overlooking the seasonal floodplain or the lagoon. All are en-suite with a flush toilet, double sinks and an outdoor shower. In addition each tent has a private veranda with deckchairs, the perfect place to relax and take in the magnificent views and soak up the atmosphere.
There is also a honeymoon tent which boasts a free-standing claw-foot bath.
These tents are small but intimate and reflect of days gone by when opulence was not the first requirement of a bush camp. Most of the tents have excellent views onto the lagoon where much wildlife can be seen.
The Kwara Concession borders the Moremi Game Reserve and is located in the northern region of the Okavango Delta The camp setting, on an island populated with tall trees.
it’s unique location boasts both permanent water and seasonal flood plains as well as extensive dry bush wilderness.
Favoured by labyrinths of permanent water channels and secret islands this area offers the perfect delta experience, and is considered to be amongst the best in Botswana for game viewing and activities.
