Hyena Pan Map
To the very northern regions of the Khwai Concession you will find Hyena Pan Tented Camp.
This is a rustic camp giving you a more affordable option to investigate this prolific region for game. There is a waterhole outside the lodge which attracts elephant to this area... this is a rally good benefit as the main water source of the Khwai River, where most of the best game viewing takes place, would be quite far away.
The Khwai River area is reachable though for game drives and the nightly cost of this camp is reasonable.
Pretty uniquely, one of the best facets of this camp are the Sky Beds which are 5 meter elevated thatched platforms where you can sleep out and have tremendous views.

Various other species frequent the area - kudu, waterbuck, red lechwe, eland, impala, roan, buffalo, water hog and many more. One can enjoy a morning or afternoon game drive in an open 4x4 game drive vehicle exploring the 350,000 hectare private concession which allows for excellent game-viewing exclusively to Hyena Pan guests. Alternatively take an easy drive along the renowned Khwai River, where there is perhaps an opportunity to photograph one of the many graceful leopards who are habituated to the area.
Hyena Pan is a tranquil tented camp in private concession area NG18 better known as Khwai. The concession area borders the Moremi National Park and the Khwai River in the South and the Chobe National Park to the East. The camp is positioned 12km’s North of the Khwai river, within Cathedral Mopane forrest overlooking a natural Mopane Pan.
The pan is a constant water supply to many species of birds and animals year round, the rains in December to March flood the area creating an enormous water feature encouraging Hippo, Elephant and Buffalo and an exceptional array of water birds, as the pan shrinks from March through to late November we pump water to the pan from our close by borehole. The water from the borehole is slightly salty with high mineral content, a big attraction to the resident game and bird species in the concession. The pan is a hive of activity year round.
There is no phone signal and no wi-fi facilities. Children are welcome although under 12yrs will share with an adult or older sibling.
Hyena Pan boasts an underground hide, a ground level, hidden view point, positioned facing an extremely private and special waterhole within our private concession area. Spectacular photographic opportunities from ground level are there for the patient, absolute quiet and absolute privacy - a very unique experience awaits at this amazing venue.
Elephant frequent this water source, as do Kudu and Roan Antelope. Giraffe and Warthog are regular visitors, whilst Buffalo and Eland are more special visitors. An afternoon spent in this tranquillity is a rare treat.
The eight en-suite tents offer simple comfort, furnished with twin beds, solar generated power and private facilities including gas generated showers.
There is an international charging station within each tent for camera’s and batteries.
Elevation options are also available; take an afternoon or a morning ‘atop’ one of our 5 meter high semi-thatched elevated platforms. View the regular visitors of elephant and antelope from one of these elevated platforms; a pack tea taken along makes the experience complete. Although for the slightly more adventurous, a night out sleeping under the Milky Way in all its glory, with mosquito nets and the full African sky is an added option. Each deck comes with twin beds and ablution facilities.
Hyena Pan sits within a cathedral of mopane trees overlooking a natural pan, which provides a steady source of water for the area’s abundant wildlife, including hippo, elephant, and buffalo. Other activities include optional night drives and game walks.
Or you can choose to just hang out in our hide and watch elephants or relax in the rim-flow splash pool and enjoy a refreshing cocktail. Guests are accommodated in eight simple but comfortable tents with en suite facilities.
