Gunns Camp Map
One of the oldest camps in the Okavango Delta, Gunns' Camp gives you a classic styled bush camp with great views over the Okavango floodplains. This is a wet camp therefore the activities are more relaxed. Enjoy yourself whilst drifting through the floodplains on a mokoro, or take a slightly more strenuous activity and go on a bush walk on Chiefs Island.
As it is a wet area it is not really known for big game, but you never know what you are going to see, certainly you have good chances of seeing herds of beautiful red lechwe running through the water.
The sister camp, Moremi crossing is not too far away and is much newer. Gunns’ is a much smaller and more intimate affair so we would recommend this lodge for its quietness alone with ability to get a real Delta experience.

Gunns Camp being a water based camp offers a wide variety of animal and bird species, our walks on Chief’s Island give you the opportunity to get a better view of not just the big animals but the smaller insects and birds that contribute to the Okavango’s vast ecosystem.
Game which has been spotted on walks has been Lion, Leopard, Wild dog, Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra, Buffalo, Red Lechwe and many more. On the mokoro’s you get to see the water birds like African Jacana’s, African Fish eagles and if you look carefully you will see the Malakite Kingfishers darting between the reeds, there is also a chance that your guide will find the rare Pel’s Fishing owl.
Overlooking the legendary Chiefs Island and bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, Gunn's Camp is one of the last few remaining luxury, vintage safari camps. Set under leafy palms and African Ebony to blend naturally with its unique surroundings, Gunn's Camp achieves a fine balance of comfort without isolating guests from the sights and sounds of the wilderness.
Gunn's Camp is the sister camp of Moremi Crossing Camp and sits closeby. The camp is leading the way in making the Okavango Delta as environmentally friendly as possible. The camp runs off a massive solar-panel, which feeds power to the entire camp. Hot water is supplied through a state-of-the-art solar-heated geyser system, delivering hot water to each room.
Become part of the bustling river life by easing between the papyrus clad banks on traditional 'mokoro' canoes. These are propelled from the stern by skilled 'poler' guides, allowing the guests to sit back and absorb the scenery. For full day trips, Gunn's Camp prepares delicious picnic lunches which can be enjoyed on a Delta island after an exhilarating bush walk.
Explore the wilderness on foot under the guidance and education of your own personal guide. Feel your senses ignite as you become part of life in the bush and encounter game without the parameters of a vehicle.
The camp managers will pack your mokoro with basic camping equipment and food so that you can set out with your own personal guide to find an island where you will set up camp. The evening will be spent preparing dinner around the campfire in the company of Africa's nocturnal wildlife.
Motor-boat sunset cruises
A great way to explore the crystal clear channels of the Boro River, motor-boat cruises are organised in time to toast the unprecedented African sunsets while drifting on a lagoon in the middle of the Okavango Delta. Watch as the mutating colours are reflected in the smooth waters, disturbed only by dipping swallows or curious hippos. (Gunn's Main Camp only, unless by prior arrangement and subject to delta water levels)
Accommodation all takes advantage of being nestling in amongst the trees whilst preserving the great views. Each is on a raised wooden deck with veranda to the front that contains some seating. The covered veranda that forms part of the tent is reached through a rolled up canvas front and here you will find a small lounge area. this is a neat design and goes a long way in to making you feel that this lounge area is a separate room. Here you will find some carpeting and a couple of nice fabric armchairs and foot rests.
Through double sliding open fronted wooden doors takes you to the bedroom area which, although not large, have been traditionally furnished with an eclectic mixture of solid wood and African furniture, with twin beds that sit on light coloured floors. At the rear of the accommodation is the en-suite bathroom area that consists of shower, washbasin and flush toilet.
Gunns Camp is situated on the southern central side of the Okavango Delta and overlooks the famous Moremi Game Reserve being pretty much right on its border.
This area is deemed a "wet" where very few dry activities take place. As such there exist a complex array of palm fringed islands dotted in amongst the floodplains and waterways of this part of the Delta.
The camp sites on one of these island which is nicely positioned in amongst its thick trees and palms whilst taking advantage of a beautiful floodplain in front.
