Definitely a 5 star camp. It is probably the best camp in Botswana that manages to combine sublime and subtle opulence whilst still maintaining the feeling of being a "bush Camp"
It is perfectly situated overlooking a vast floodplain whilst protected in a tree lined island, the area is a captured environment for large numbers of game. Not many camp camps in Botswana maintain the extraordinary numbers of game actually in the camp itself, and its not at all uncommon to see a whole herd of buffalo sleep at night under the high walkways that criss-cross the camp.
Service levels here are extremely high, from the standard of the accommodation to the food... Fantastic...!

Duba Expedition Camp prides itself on its extraordinary wildlife experiences, and rightly so. The diverse wildlife experience is renowned with regular sightings of a diverse range of species, including large herds of Red lechwe along with Greater kudu, tsessebe and even giraffe which in previous years has been a rare sighting.
Of course, elephant and hippo trudge through the swamps happily, and are regularly seen. Leopard, and nocturnal species such as Brown hyena can be sighted as well. Wildlife is a regular sight right in camp! Birds abound, and the area is reputed as a birdwatcher’s paradise. Okavango ‘specials’ include the rare Wattled crane, Pel’s Fishing owl, White-backed Night heron and Marsh owl.
The renowned and totally brand new Duba Plains Camp sits in the heart of the Okavango Delta. A recent guest said it all, “I am not a religious person but I now understand that the Garden of Eden can now in fact be found at Duba Plains.”
A matrix of palm-dotted islands, flood plains and woodland, the 77,000 ha private concession typifies the region’s unique landscape. Duba Plains Camp offers 5 bespoke tents, in addition to a separate 2 bedroom suite aptly named the Duba Plains Suite, all designed by Dereck Joubert to fit into the forest and to take advantage of the shapes and textures of shade but also to evoke the old classic African safari style of the 1920’s. It is a wildlife connoisseur’s getaway with literally thousands of animals in an almost endless pattern across the flood plains.
The main area consists of a large raised dining room, and comfortable lounge with private dining areas, wine cellar and library, with ample space for our guests to either get away and be private or be all together if they want to.
Guests staying at the Duba Plains Suite automatically enjoy the services of a private game drive vehicle with their own guide as well as a private butler and chef. The camp’s centre-point is the gathering place of all bush experiences – the fire place on an extended deck into the swamp.
The intimate camp consists of five traditional-style tents. There is also the separate 2 bedroom Duba Plains Suite available for guests.
All the rooms are raised on recycled railway sleeper decking and offer guests amazing views of the surrounding floodplain and the steady stream of wildlife parading past. Each tent has a lounge area, with place to write and do your photographic downloads, as well as the opportunity for private dining in your tent.
Each guest tent offers a private verandah plus beautifully appointed en-suite facilities consisting of flush loo, double basins and indoor and outdoor showers and luxurious baths. Ceiling fans, an environmentally friendly air-conditioning system over the guests bed, and careful tent design maintain a comfortable climate for rest and relaxation.
Guests will be able to enjoy their own private plunge pool and outdoor under cover sala/day rest area
Many consider Duba Plains to be the Okavango’s Maasai Mara because of the sheer volume of wildlife. This is the place that owners, and National Geographic filmmakers, conservationists and explorers, Dereck and Beverly Joubert chose for their home base. Great Plains Conservation is the only operator on the concession, thereby offering guests the ultimate opportunity for private wildlife sightings.
Duba Plains Camp, is part of a joint venture partnership between Great Plains Conservation and the Duba Plains Concession, creating maximum benefit to the community nearby with lease funds, jobs and other benefits like our Big Cats Caring for Communities project. This partnership ensures that these communities receive tangible and substantial benefits from allowing their ancestral land for wildlife conservation. Botswana is a leader in such partnerships, and Duba Plains is a long-standing example of this successful partnership.
